Why Engineers Are Switching

Infrastructure-first observability vs. Pricing-first SaaS.

Unlimited Retention

SaaS tools purge logs after 15 days. With ClickHouse, keep years of forensic logs at a fraction of the cost.

SQL-Native Forensics

Escape limited proprietary DSLs. Use standard SQL in ClickHouse for complex log joins and trace analysis.

Automated Security

Replace static API keys with automated mTLS via Caddy and Smallstep, keeping your telemetry inside your VPC.

The 4-Phase Migration Blueprint

We help you move your telemetry without downtime or data loss.

Phase 1: The OTel Bridge

Deploy the OpenTelemetry Collector as a gateway. Dual-ship your data to both your legacy SaaS and VictoriaMetrics to verify data parity.

Phase 2: Cardinality Sanitization

Use OTel processors to drop redundant labels and scrub sensitive PII, instantly reducing your billable data footprint by 30-40%.

Phase 3: Dashboard & Alert Portability

Migrate proprietary SaaS charts to standard Grafana dashboards using our pre-built templates for Go, Java, and Kubernetes.

Phase 4: Decommission & Scale

Once parity is confirmed, shut down legacy agents. Scale your VictoriaMetrics cluster horizontally to handle your peak loads with ease.

More Engineering FAQs

How do we handle PromQL parity?

VictoriaMetrics is 100% PromQL compatible and even extends it with MetricsQL. Your existing Grafana dashboards will work out of the box.

Can ClickHouse handle high-cardinality logs?

ClickHouse thrives on high-cardinality data like User IDs or Trace IDs without the "mapping explosion" common in legacy tools.

What about long-term data retention?

With up to 15x compression, you can store years of logs on local storage for the price of 15 days of SaaS storage.

Is mTLS difficult to rotate?

We use Smallstep for automated certificate issuance. The OTel Collector picks up rotated certs without requiring a service restart.

Does this support OpenLineage?

Yes. By using the OTel Collector as a gateway, you can ingest OpenLineage events and route them into ClickHouse.

How do we handle multi-tenancy?

VictoriaMetrics supports multi-tenancy via account IDs in the URL. You can isolate data for different environments within a single cluster.

Success Story

"By deploying the OTel Bridge, we moved 4PB of telemetry from Datadog to ClickHouse in 6 weeks without a single minute of downtime."
